Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Minister Pipata Ratchakitprakana said the kingdom will introduce a tourist tax for all foreigners entering the country from June.

All tourists, with the exception of foreign citizens who have a work permit in the country, will have to pay 300 baht (just over 600 rubles).

According to the minister, the proceeds will be used mainly to help travelers injured in accidents, as well as to develop domestic tourism destinations in the country.

The coronavirus pandemic has severely disrupted Thailand’s economy, which is highly dependent on tourism.

In November of last year, all restrictions related to the spread of COVID-19 were lifted, but since January the country’s government requires all tourists arriving in the country to present documents proving vaccination or previous illness. True, this restriction was valid only for one day, after which it was canceled again.

Last year, around 12 million tourists visited Thailand. In the next year, the department expects to at least double this number.
