The charitable foundation was established in 2021 to preserve the legacy of physicist, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and human rights activist Andrei Sakharov. As stated on the organization’s website, the foundation awards annual scholarships on a competitive basis to students and graduate students of the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology to promote the development of science and education in Russia.
