The new Beijing BJ40 received a modern design that would fit even in a crossover. On the face, following modern trends – a frameless radiator grill, which visually represents a single element with optics. The profile of the model remained true to itself, at the rear – a hinged door with a spare wheel, square lights were replaced by more elegant vertical lights.
The interior has been significantly redesigned, although individual elements such as the steering wheel can still evoke associations with older models. The dashboard is fully digital, it has two multimedia screens under the same glass. The button for turning on the system was entered between the central deflectors, and under them there is a scattering of “hot access” physical keys, including the climate system. The tunnel remained largely unchanged, except for the reconfiguration and lowering of the transmission selector.

The BJ40 is 4790mm long, 1940mm wide and 1929mm high on rails. Wheelbase size – 2760 mm. The Tank 300 familiar to the Russians, the Haval Dargo, has almost the same parameters and is slightly more compact. Compared to the previous generation, the new BJ40 added 15mm in wheelbase and 160mm in length. The width has changed slightly, by 15mm.
Beijing BJ40 is equipped with a 234-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine. The previous generation is equipped with a 224-hp engine, there is also a 2.3-liter gasoline unit, which was sent to the hardcore version of the model, and a 163-hp turbodiesel. There is no information about the transmission of the novelty, but it is unlikely that there will be any changes – they will leave the Aisin automatic transmission and the manual transmission for basic modifications (provided that the positioning of the model does not change). Most likely, the transmission will also be made according to a recipe proven over the years – a complete plug-in transmission with electronic locks for the front and rear cross-axle differentials.
The new BJ40 will be shown to the general public at the Chengdu Auto Show, which will open its doors on August 25, 2023. It will also announce pricing and configurations and start taking orders. The price of the previous generation starts at 160 thousand yuan (2,040,000 rubles).
