The billing of companies drops for the tenth month after falling energy sales.

The companies’ turnover fell 0.8% in January compared to the same month in 2023 due to the 30.9% drop in sales in the supply of electricity, water, sanitation and waste management.

On the contrary, sales of services, industry and commerce advanced by 6.9%, 1.6% and 0.7% year-on-year, respectively, according to the Business Turnover Index (ICNE) published this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, company turnover fell 3.2% in January, with annual falls in energy and water supply (-32.7%), commerce (-2.1%) and the industry (-1.9%). In the opposite direction, billing for services increased by 5.9%.

In monthly values ​​(year 2024 over December 2023), business turnover increased by 0.6% in the seasonally adjusted series, in contrast to the monthly decline of 0.9% experienced in the last month of last year.
