According to a statement from the Cuban Aviation Corporation (CACSA), the incident took place at the José Martí International Airport. “During takeoff, a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 (SWA 3923) en route to Fort Lauderdale experienced an engine failure. Following the established protocol, an emergency landing was allowed at the Havana airport,” the Cuban aeronautical authorities said.
On social media, eyewitnesses said they observed the aircraft’s engine igniting.
“The passengers were evacuated, they are in good condition. The causes of the incident are being investigated,” CACSA said that there were no victims during the emergency.
