The Monterey Park tragedy was the deadliest mass murder in the United States in the new year, and the second after the shooting at a school in Uvalde, Texas, in May 2022. So 21 people were killed.

The first tragedy occurred in Monterey Park, near Los Angeles, on Saturday night. In the traditional Chinese New Year party according to the lunar calendar, where hundreds of thousands of guests usually gather. The choice of the vacation spot is not accidental. The city has 60 thousand inhabitants: 65% – Asian, 27% – Hispanic, 6% – White.
In the middle of the festival, the shooting began. Local Chinese Hu Cang Tran, 72, killed 10 people and injured the same number. Later, one of the injured died at the hospital.
The authorities urgently canceled the festival, which was supposed to last on Sunday.
The same killer fled in a white van. The police blocked the car in the nearby city of Alhambra. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, as the van was surrounded, police heard a gunshot from inside. An hour and a half later, the guards decided to check inside and found a corpse with a gunshot wound.
According to the preliminary version, the Chinese staged a mass execution after a fight with his wife.

And now, another mass execution, all in the same state of California. This time in the coastal city of Half Moon Bay south of San Francisco. And again the shooter is Chinese. Zhao Chunli, a 67-year-old local resident. He first shot four Chinese at a mushroom farm with a semi-automatic pistol, then three compatriots at a shipping company. Another victim is in critical condition at the hospital. Also, he committed murders in front of the children.
Two hours later, the offender himself turned himself in to the police. A San Mateo County spokesman told the Associated Press that a “disgruntled farm worker” committed the massacre.
Mass shootings are one of the biggest problems in the United States. In the past year alone, there were 647 shooting tragedies in the US in which four or more people were killed, not counting the shooter.
