The commando of the 36th brigade of Ukrainian marines unexpectedly “resurrected” in captivity

Colonel Baranyuk, unexpectedly for the general public, “resurrected”

The commander of the 36th Marine Brigade of Ukraine, Colonel Baranyuk, unexpectedly “resurrected” for the general public. Remember, in April, videos were played everywhere about a failed attempt to break through a group of Marines from Mariupol, when a very difficult to identify burned body with a machine gun next to it, on which there was a name tag ” Baranyuk,” entered the frame. And it turns out that the commander of the brigade is alive, safe and sound (judging by his appearance) and in captivity gives detailed testimony during interrogations and even interviews with Russian journalists who were allowed to communicate with him. And not only with him, but also with the chief of the General Staff of the brigade, Colonel Dmitry Kormyankov, who was also captured along with his commander.

– Initially we did not prepare for the conduct of hostilities in the village, admitted Kormyankov. We didn’t have that task. We did not have that opportunity to conduct any additional reconnaissance and maneuvers. We had to statically take defensive positions and act according to the circumstances.

According to the brigade commander, the entire defense of Mariupol and Azovstal was led by the National Guard brigade commander, which included the Azov battalion. He emphasized that these are different departments: the National Guard belongs to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and his brigade was subordinate to the command of the Ukrainian Navy.

“At first it was strange for me, usually the opposite happens,” the commander of the Ukrainian marines admitted. – but since the higher authorities decided so … In addition, we received our own site, our own line of defense …

He also criticized the widely promoted Javelins.

– The javelin is useless in urban battles, something constantly interferes there, – said Baranyuk, saying that in principle this American “panacea” is no better and is quite comparable to the RPG-18 or RPG-22. He then thought for a few seconds and once again affirmed in the affirmative. -RPG-22.

The conversation also touched on the topic of foreign mercenaries. Baranyuk said there were only two foreigners in his brigade, both English, who were enrolled in the first battalion, adding that “Ukrainian law allows this.” But the chief of staff even remembered that one of the British was a sniper, but it was difficult for him to say anything about the second. At the same time, the brigade commander found it difficult to determine his motives. According to him, they weren’t explorers or money hunters, probably just adventurers and thrill seekers.

But Chief of Staff Kormyankov turned out to be more talkative and, with obvious resentment, debunked various heroic myths about Azov.

– They just left those areas where they performed the task, respectively, we had to occupy these areas so that they would not outflank us. – Kormyankov talked about the “Azovites” and complained that the marines could not even stop them for such a thing. – Another department, we could not express any claims to them, we could only inform our immediate superiors about the change in the tactical situation and our decisions: to take the defense from the left flank, then from the right flank, and so on.

For most of the defense, the Marines were unaware of what was happening beyond range. According to Kormyankov, they knew nothing about the loss of Volnovakha by the Ukrainian forces, about the situation on the roads around Mariupol. And the first suspicions and doubts arose in them only after they failed to deliver reinforcements, ammunition and supplies. At the same time, they had a connection all the time: American billionaire Musk’s Starlink satellites distributed the Internet.

“We informed the leaders, the leaders answered us that a special event was being prepared to restore the front line,” said the chief of staff of the brigades (it turns out that the kyiv leaders lied all this time to both sides: to the population that everything is in order in Mariupol, and to the Marines who will soon be released). – The leadership promised that the line along the Mariupol-Volnovakha line, well, even to the north, would again be in the hands of the Ukrainian troops. And our task is to wait until the formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine turn around and occupy this line again.

– I’m not one of them, not at all. -the chief of staff answered the question of how he relates to the “Azov”. I am not interested. We had a short period where we had dialogues. Until they began to withdraw on the flanks, they exposed our positions and forced our units to break. This resulted in heavy losses of our staff.

– Yes, I am glad that the servicemen of the 36th brigade survived. Not all, of course, but those who remained, even with some challenge, answered and admitted the chief of staff of the brigade. – If we had left earlier, we would have saved more lives.

And as a result, he just matured.

– I would not like this conflict to be resolved by military means. It cannot be solved this way. The country of Ukraine could make concessions to end this conflict. A regime without NATO and without guarantees of non-aggression – nothing is impossible at these key moments.

– I do not support Nazism and I am not its supporter or a person interested in this direction. This problem should be dealt with at the state level, and not at me, – Kormyankov assured in conclusion. Well, it’s a good thing he didn’t say that he was a cook and just fed the headquarters.

It is interesting that when talking about the state and the main leaders, Kormyankov deliberately rolled his eyes. In general, he did this quite often, especially when it came to higher authorities.

Well done what we have in the Ministry of Defense. The fighters not only managed to capture such birds, but also kept this fact secret for so long in order to make it public when the time came – it is worth a lot. Someone in kyiv (and not only there) definitely got something interesting today.
