The Ombudsman’s Office reports that it has addressed the competent authorities with a request to verify the validity of the inspector’s criminal responsibility and his arrest, as well as to establish control over the investigation of the circumstances of the tragedy. He did so after the appeal of citizens, who, according to her, claim that the fire inspector tried to check compliance with fire safety regulations in the shelter, but was not allowed there.
“It is important to note that, based on the results of the investigation of similar tragedies, a pattern can be traced: the establishments did not have any official legal status, often the owners prevented the inspection of fire safety regulations, citing entry illegal on private territory,” writes Moskalkova. – We have already presented an initiative to implement the compulsory qualification of private residences for the elderly and reception centers for people in difficult life situations, as well as for people without a fixed residence. It is important that the real perpetrators, and not the “rangers”, are held accountable for human rights violations.”
