The scandalous activist Alexander Kuzmich literally dug up Vincent Van Gogh’s grave in France. The artist is buried in the town of Auvers-sur-Oise, near Paris; there he died in a hotel after attempting suicide.

Kuzmich behaved in the crazy style of Van Gogh: arriving at the cemetery in a white suit and with his face made up in white, with a shovel in his hands, he dug a large hole at the burial site.

The activist presented it under the pretext of “Van Gogh’s return to this world” as there are few real artists left. The vandalism was accompanied by the reading in English of Arseny Tarkovsky’s poem “May Vincent Van Gogh forgive me”.

Sunflowers are planted on Van Gogh’s grave, in which visitors to the cemetery see a reference to his painting of the same name. Now there is little left of them: the vandal managed to dig half a meter of the grave, the flowers were under a layer of soil. A video mocking the artist’s memory appeared on social networks.

The “performance” was interrupted by the police called in by the French. The police barely got over their stupor and subdued the thug.

It is noteworthy that the French media are still silent about what happened. Perhaps because Kuzmich, originally from Belarus, fled there, because a case of vandalism was opened against him and he was given refuge in France as a sensitive and misunderstood character. But in the end, the French authorities themselves were not happy: in 2021, the activist was already arrested in Paris for trying to climb the Elysée Palace with a replica of a Molotov cocktail.
