According to the Altai Territory prosecutor’s office, on October 2 last year, on the Barnaul-Novosibirsk highway in the Pervomaisky district of Novoaltaisk, an ambulance team was going to provide assistance to victims of an accident. As the medic approached the wrecked Honda CR-V, he was struck by a Volkswagen Passat at a speed of about 100 kilometers per hour, crashing into the injured car.
The doctor could not be saved: the injuries were incompatible with life. The woman driving the Volkswagen Passat was accused of violating traffic regulations, resulting in the death of a person (part 3 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The court found her guilty and sentenced her to three years in prison in a colony-settlement. Furthermore, she was banned from driving for three years. The court also satisfied the claims of the relatives of the deceased, recovering 3.2 million rubles from the defendants as compensation for moral damages.
