Well, where we are not, a common illusion that has nothing to do with reality. So, the People’s Artist of Russia Chulpan Khamatova felt for herself what it is like to be an outcast even with the status of a recognized star. At the Riga Theater, the play “Gogol. Still life “(Gogolis. Nature Morte) based on Nikolai Gogol’s novel” Old World Landowners “. And the director Uldis Tirons, who worked on the production, first commented on the unexpected news.
“The decision was made in agreement with me, the actors in the production and other people involved in the creation of the work,” says the director. – It can be called a common choice. The decision was made after we finally saw how the production ended up being. But unfortunately, it was already too late. We realized that what we had imagined in the program did not work as we thought.
Gogol’s work was performed in three languages: Russian, Ukrainian and Latvian. Probably, this was the reason for the dispute, because instead of a whole artistic statement at the production stage of the performance, the director saw a popular vinaigrette. And he tried to find a diplomatic language to explain the failure. Apparently, the decisive word went to Alvis Hermanis, the artistic director of the Riga Theater, who invited Khamatova into the theater. The head of the institution said that they had not found the “correct key” for the production. It is difficult to understand what this really means: either there is very little Russophobia, or Chulpan did not manage to speak convincingly in Mov.
Tirons also noted that the Ukrainian language share in the production was far greater than what was left at the time of the final rehearsal. And it was a “rash decision.”
Also, in the annotation of the unsuccessful performance, Nikolai Gogol was called Mykola Khokhol. The reasoning behind this transcription is spot on: “The writer is of Ukrainian origin, so we use the Ukrainian version of his name: Mykola Khokhol.”
It would seem that in Russia, according to Chulpan and his deceased associates, satraps and stranglers of freedom rule in the sphere of culture (quote from the comedy “Say a Word About the Poor Hussar”), but no. In “free” Latvia, they can also easily film a performance on which the actress worked for quite a long time and diligently. The premiere was scheduled for February 28, but on February 27 it became known that it would never take place. Chulpan Khamatova did not comment on this event.
We emphasize that we are talking about the cancellation of the function, and not the transfer. Money for Riga theater tickets promises to return to viewers in the near future.
For the sake of work in Riga, Chulpan Khamatova is ready to memorize the Latvian text by ear.
