The 73rd Berlin Film Festival took place. The main prize – the “Golden Bear” – was taken by the French documentary “On Adamante”, directed by Nicolas Philibert. Write about it Term.
Philibert’s painting is about a unique psychiatric clinic in Paris, located in a floating building in the center of the city. Introducing the film, jury president Kristen Stewart said it was “masterfully crafted” and serves as “cinematic proof of the vital necessity of human expression”.
Philippe Garrel won the Best Director award for his latest film, The Great Chariot. Garrel dedicated the award to the late director Jean-Luc Godard.
The Grand Jury Prize was awarded to the film “Red Sky” by German director Christoph Petzold. This is the second part of his trilogy. The film tells the story of four young people trapped on the shores of the Baltic Sea. The Jury’s Special Mention went to The bad life of João Canijo.
In 2021, the award introduced gender-neutral awards. The Silver Bear for Best Leading Role went to nine-year-old Sofía Otero for her debut role in 20,000 Kinds of Bees. She became the youngest winner of this award in history.
Let’s remember that the red carpet of the Berlin Film Festival has become a protest platform against the Iranian regime. A group of Iranian filmmakers demanded the release of jailed journalists and a rapper. They were joined by the president of the jury and the American actress Kristen Stewart.
