Russian film company World Vision and online cinema Okko have announced the release date of the historical biopic Jeanne Dubarry. Russian viewers will see the tape in theaters from July 20. The film was directed by French actress and director Maiwenn, who also played the lead female role.
The role of King Louis XV was played by Johnny Depp, for whom the work in the film was a high-profile return to the cinema after a three-year break. Also in the film he was played by the famous French actor Pierre Richard, who appeared in the image of the Duke de Richelieu.
The film had its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, where Jeanne Dubarry was selected as the opening film. The premiere was carried out with great emotion, after which the public applauded the film and its creators for seven minutes. At the moment, the film has shown the most successful start in the last ten years at the French box office among the films that opened the Cannes Film Festival.
The film is about Jeanne Vaubernier, a working-class young woman with a thirst for culture and pleasure, who uses her intelligence and charm to climb the rungs of the social ladder. She meets King Louis XV and soon becomes her favorite companion. Thanks to her relationship with the king, she returns a zest for life that had already been extinguished during the long years of her reign. Unaware of her status as his courtesan, the king invites Joan to the palace of Versailles, where her arrival infuriates the court.
Earlier, Johnny Depp commented on the TV series “Idol” by Sam Levinson and The Weeknd, around which the fame of the scandalous project has already been built. In it, the main role was played by the daughter of the American actor Lily-Rose Depp. We talk about it in more detail here.
