The building of the Centre has all the conditions for the comfort of patients and employees. On the ground floor everything is equipped for making a prosthesis. Technician Valentina Fanina points out that there is only an individual approach here. She shows the details of the future product and focuses on the fact that they are all signed. No two patients are the same. However, it is not enough to create an anatomically correct prosthesis; it is important that the patient learns how to use it.
Dmitry learned from his own experience how difficult it is.
“It is very uncomfortable at first, but then when they tell you and show you how to move, it becomes easier,” she explains. “I advise everyone who hasn’t done it yet: listen to the experts and learn, and everything will be fine.”
Dmitry is undergoing rehabilitation at the Center. He admits that sometimes the doctor notices what he himself does not see. Alexey Gusenok, a senior physiotherapy instructor, explains that this happens thanks to the biofeedback platform. It looks like a modern treadmill, but it has much more functionality. When a person walks on a moving surface, experts see what can be improved in the prosthesis.

In general, rehabilitation equipment occupies an area comparable to that of an average two-room apartment. However, the patient’s journey from one simulator to another, the process of adaptation and training, is very, very difficult. On average, this takes up to six months, however, as experts say, in each specific case everything is purely individual. One person quickly learns to stand on a prosthesis, transfer weight from one limb to another, and then take the first steps, while for another it will take a long time.
Sergey Vylegzhanin, Vice-President of the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation, notes that it is no coincidence that the Center was opened in Belgorod.
“We have been looking for partners who can organise a truly comprehensive rehabilitation for a long time,” he explains.
The expert notes that the decision to make the main representative of this market, CITO, an important partner in this direction was conscious and beneficial for everyone. At first it was clear that if an extensive system of such centres was not created, veterans of the Northern Military District would have to go to clinics in the capital. It is expensive.
“Well, this problem cannot be solved in Moscow alone,” said Sergei Vylegzhanin. – And it is great that a centre has been opened in Belgorod where adaptive sports are being developed.
He points out that thanks to sport, wrestlers recover more quickly from serious injuries, especially psychological ones.
The High-Tech Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Center will host not only defenders of Russia’s borders, but also ordinary residents of Belgorod and neighboring regions.
