The Government distributes 363 million to promote greener public transport

Date: April 24, 2024 Time: 08:43:59

In the first Council of Ministers, after the early call of the general elections, it has decided this Tuesday to give a significant boost to sustainable mobility in public transport. To this end, it will distribute 363 million euros for this purpose, which it will distribute among the transport consortia of the main Spanish metropolitan areas.

The Minister for Territorial Policy and Government spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, has specified that these aids are “nominal subsidies” and that they will be distributed in “metropolitan or outermost areas with great demand by the public.” Specifically, for the Canary Islands, 47.5 million euros will be allocated for 126 million that will be transferred to the Madrid Transport Consortium. For its part, Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona (TMB) will receive 149 million euros and the Valencia Metropolitan Transport Authority up to 40 million.

All this, according to the government spokesman, with “the condition that they have a sustainable mobility plan.” That is to say, that they draw up mobility plans.” In this sense, Rodríguez added that with these conditions the aim is to encourage the promotion of this type of measure.
