“The government ordered the arrest of a Russian-registered transport plane, which is now at Toronto airport,” the ministry said. Having seized the asset, Canadian authorities “will dispose of it in accordance with federal law,” the Foreign Ministry added.
It is noted that if the plane can be impounded, Canada intends to work with the kyiv authorities on the issue of its transfer to Ukraine.
Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is visiting Kiev, announced the seizure of the Russian plane. Oleg Stepanov, the Russian ambassador in Ottawa, called this statement a theft, adding that with the Trudeau regime in Canada, there is no rule of law.
The An-124 “Ruslan” with a batch of coronavirus tests arrived from China to Toronto on February 27, 2022 and was arrested two hours after the Canadian authorities closed the skies to Russian aviation. The plane’s crew returned to Russia.
