The Government paralyzes the dismissal stop despite Diaz’s crusade

Date: March 22, 2023 Time: 22:35:26

The General Union of Workers (UGT) has made public this Friday the allegations presented by the Government and the employers -national and European- to the claim presented by the union before the European Committee of Social Rights, in which they denounced that the Spanish legislation does not comply with the provisions of the European Social Charter. The general secretary of the UGT, Pepe Álvarez, and the vice-secretary for union policy, Fernando Luján, have affirmed that they were surprised to have found points of agreement in the positions expressed by the Executive and the employers.

Faced with the statements that the Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, has been making in recent weeks, the allegation presented by the coalition government before the Council is in accordance with the regulations on unfair dismissal. The Government, according to the union’s complaint, defends in the letter that the compensation of 20 days – extendable to 33 – included in the 2012 labor reform promoted by the Government of Mariano Rajoy is sufficient to be a deterrent.
