With the score 2:2 at the end of regular time of the match “Spartak” – “Ural”, the goalkeeper and the defender of “Ural” collided in the penalty area. Alexander Sobolev sent the ball flying into the net, but referee Vitaly Meshkov, for unknown reasons, blew his whistle at the moment of impact.
Several former RPL referees have already spoken out about Meshkov’s obvious mistake. And after the match, Pavel Kamantsev, head of the RFU Referee Committee, also spoke about this episode.
“We have a procedure by which we determine the error. If the whistle was blown earlier and, apparently, it was given, then this is a violation of the recommendations at least. VAR could intervene,” he said.
Kamantsev noted that such situations, unfortunately, do happen.
