Metsola published his photo, accompanied by an inscription about how good it is to return to Ukraine. “It’s good to be with those who sacrificed everything for our values, with the Europeans whose home is the European Union,” TASS quoted the publication as saying.
Europoliticians do not usually announce their trips to kyiv in advance. This is done for security reasons. Prior to this, Metsola visited Ukraine in April last year.
Metsola has previously said the European Union should grant Ukraine candidate status as a “symbol of hope” to keep up the spirit. In April last year, at a meeting with the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, she promised that Ukraine would become an EU candidate “officially and quickly.”
In February this year, the head of the European Parliament said that EU countries should transfer combat aircraft and long-range missiles to Ukraine.
