Reznikov clarified that this assessment in eastern Ukraine was expressed to him by generals from the front. According to them, the situation is “difficult, but controllable.” According to the Ukrainian minister, the supply of Western tanks to Kyiv “is not the end of the story, but only the beginning.”
He hopes that by March the soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will already be trained in the use of European and American tanks. Regarding Kyiv’s request for Western fighters, which he was denied, Reznikov said: “For me, everything that is impossible today, [будет] probably tomorrow”.
Earlier, several countries announced they would still send tanks to Kyiv amid plans to launch a counteroffensive. In particular, the UK will send the Challenger 2, Germany will send the Leopard 2, the USA – M1 Abrams. Also, European countries received permission from Germany to re-export Leopards, which are in their arsenals.
As for the fighters, the FRG has so far ruled out their delivery to Ukraine, and Washington said they were not surprised by such a request from the Kyiv authorities, but no decisions have been made yet.
