The Italian collector Pietro Pittaro will return to Russia more than 400 objects of the Benois family

Date: March 29, 2024 Time: 07:22:25

It became known that the Italian collector Pietro Pittaro will return to Russia more than 400 items that belonged to the famous Benois family of St. Petersburg artists and architects. This was announced by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The solemn act of sending the collection will take place on May 31. Pittaro will donate the Benois family archive, as well as the tailcoat of Nicholas Benois, the ideologue behind the creation of the Benois Family Archive Museum. The event will be held with the support of the Center for Film Festivals and International Programs. It will be attended by Deputy Minister of Culture Andrey Malyshev and Acting General Director of the Peterhof Museum-Reserve Roman Kovrikov.

This is not the first time Pittaro has donated items from his collection to Russia. In 2016 he already donated an easel, a palette, brushes and two drawings by Alexander and Nikolai Benois to Peterhof, and in 2021 he donated a model for Nikolai Benois’ opera La Boheme to the Bakhrushin Theater Museum.

“I was guided then and now by only one thought: things should go home, this is correct. For this reason, from Italy, they were returned to the homeland of Benois, to Russia,” Pittaro said.

Previously, Fondazione Prada inaugurated a collective exhibition “Everybody talks about the weather”. The exhibition explores the beauty and fear of Venice’s precarious ecological future. We talk about it in more detail here.
