The Mayakovsky Theater hosts the final premiere of the season: the Israeli detective story “The Starling Paradox”

Date: July 17, 2024 Time: 16:41:20

On June 24, the Mayakovsky Theater will host the final premiere of the 101st season – the play “The Starling Paradox”. The play by Irina Vasilyeva, a recent graduate of Sergei Zhenovach, will be the first production in Russia of the play “Amsterdam” by the avant-garde Israeli writer Maya Arad Yasur.

In the story, one day in the life of an Israeli migrant girl in Holland she becomes a true detective in search of the reason why gas bills for an unimaginable amount arrive at her home. The roles in “The Starling Paradox” are played by young artists of the Mayakovsky Theater: Yulia Marycheva, Arina Nazarova, Alina Vakaeva, Ivan Kovaliunas and Oleg Sapiro.

“We built the performance as a chorus of voices in the main character’s head. Alone, in a foreign country, she is torn between questions: am I responsible for what my people did before me? Can a single person pay for the fault of the State? Can I be one of my own far from my native pack? We are inextricably linked to our roots and space. It seems to me that in each individual the historical past and the present collide and demand honest responses on their part,” shared director Irina Vasílieva.

Let us remember that the first session of the Impromptu project with the participation of the composer and philosopher Vladimir Martynov will take place in the Boiler Room space of the Bread Factory.
