In 1999, two unknowns released their first album full of cockiness, melancholy, a lot of rumba and lyrics that sometimes had to be censored. Shortly after, the rooms of young people throughout Spain were decorated with posters of the brothers José and David Muñoz along with those of the Backstreet Boys or El Canto del Loco. 25 years later they are still giving a lot of fight and are on their way to filling the 28 concerts that they have already confirmed in 2024. Before this happens, Estopa have visited El Hormiguero de Pablo Motos with their new album under their arm. It is titled Estopía and went on sale on Friday, March 15.
Estopa’s career over all these years is full of songs turned into anthems, which have been sung and danced from Cornellá de Llobregat to the last corner of Spain. With The Raja of Your Skirt, Como Camarón, Tu Calorro or Me Lack of Breath, among many others. The single from his latest album is The Day You Leave, another great story from her life and that of so many other people. In Estopía they make a small nod to Artificial Intelligence and it is their twelfth studio album. They have published it coinciding with the 25th anniversary tour.
Estopa’s cache at his concerts
Estopa will take his songs throughout Spain and part of Latin America in 2024. Many of the concerts have already sold out. A total of 28 events are already confirmed and will bring together a figure close to 500,000 spectators. The first will be in Caracas on April 18 and before the end of the month it will be in Miami, Lima, Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires.
The tour for their 25th anniversary will take them through Spain from May to October. They will pass through the most spectacular settings, such as the Cívitas Metropolitano in Madrid, the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia or the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium in Barcelona. They will also make the public enjoy Bilbao, Alicante, Murcia, Seville, Granada, Las Palmas, Calella de Palafrugell, Gijón, Cádiz, Fuengirola, Almería, Cerdanya, Albacete, Palma de Mallorca, Tarragona, Valladolid, Pamplona and Zaragoza.
Estopa’s earnings for each of the concerts on their tour start at a minimum of 200,000 euros, although the figure is even higher on large stages, where they also have a greater display and have a higher cost. That is, they are going to bill at least 5.6 million euros for their 28 concerts on the tour. It must be made clear that this figure is not for the brothers, but from there they have to pay all the employees who accompany them during the tour and all associated expenses such as food, salaries, hotels and others.
How much money has Estopa earned in his career?
The duo formed by the Muñoz brothers has become one of the reference groups in Spanish music. Not only because most of their songs have been a hit at some point, but because they have achieved it over a long history. They have sold more than 4 million records throughout their career. This has brought them a lot of money and they have both felt proud of having managed to get their parents to close the bar much earlier than expected 25 years ago.
Their father “told them that we earned more money on our first tour than he did in his entire working life,” the brothers noted in March 2023 when they visited Días de Tele, Julia Otero’s program on TVE. This is how they remembered that they grew up in a working class family and joked about how their lives have changed: “We are not Georgina or Cristiano, but compared to before…”. And they added that “we thought it was going to end soon and here we are still 25 years later. We are the same, but richer. Very rich.”
