In addition to the Groundhogs, McPhee has played with Herbal Mixture, John Dummer Band, Hapshash and the Colored Coat, Current 93 and several of his solo ventures, officially leaving The Groundhogs in 2015 due to health reasons.
In 2009, McPhee suffered the first in a series of strokes that affected his speech and by extension his ability to sing, but killed the 79-year-old entertainer from complications following a bad fall. An obituary appeared on his group’s official accounts.
McPhee was born on March 24, 1944 in Lincolnshire. The Groundhogs formed in 1963, throughout the band’s history, being its only permanent member. In the group, 25 people exceeded, about a third of them have already given their souls to God. For example, drummer Clive Brooks, known primarily for the progressive band Egg, and Rory Gallagher’s quickly drunk drummer Wilgar Campbell.
