Director Denis Villeneuve was a guest on Vanity Fair’s podcast called Little Gold Men. The filmmaker spoke about the new part of “Dune” and stressed that the film based on Frank Herbert’s novel “Dune Messiah” will not be the culmination of the trilogy. His words are reported by Variety.
“I want everyone to understand that for me this was a real diptych. It is already done and finished. The third film, which is currently being written, will not be a trilogy. It will be different and will have its own identity,” said the director.
The third film will take place 12 years after the first Dune novel. The director will need to age up the main cast, which includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh and others. Villeneuve also noted that he doesn’t mind other directors starting to film the books.
It was previously reported that Jenna Ortega wanted to star in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. She auditioned for the role of Chani, which was eventually played by Zendaya. We talked about it in more detail here.
