The main reason for the flight of homeless people from shelters is the strict rules that “street children” are simply not used to.

According to US media reports, the problem of homelessness in New York, which the metropolis’ new mayor, Eric Adams, enthusiastically took up, has only recently worsened and the number of people sleeping on the streets has reached a all-time high.
According to official figures, the number of homeless people staying in shelters reached almost 66,000 in November. This number does not include those who live in basements, on the street, or in dilapidated buildings.
Earlier this year, Adams announced that he intends to solve the problem of homelessness and ordered homeless people to be removed from subway stations and sent to shelters. For their part, the shelter staff said that 70% of the people forcibly taken to them fled during the first week because they could not feel normal in these institutions.
Our shelters are not safe. These are not places where people want to live,” Sia Weaver, a spokeswoman for Housing Justice for All, told reporters.
In his opinion, the main reason for the flight of homeless people from shelters is the strict rules that “street children” are simply not used to.
