Mobile phone operators have not yet received the court order to suspend the Telegram instant messaging application that the judge of the National Court Santiago Pedraz issued this Saturday. The reason behind this decision was an alleged unauthorized use of copyrighted content.

The suspension of the application has been decided after Mediaset, Antena 3 and Movistar Plus+ filed a lawsuit in which they alleged that several channels in the application were committing a crime of continued violation of intellectual property rights.
Telegram has not collaborated to identify the accounts
Pedraz, head of central court number 5 of the National Court, considers the measure “necessary, appropriate and proportional” because there is no alternative to stop the dissemination of this content.
The order explains that the authorities of the British Virgin Islands (where the courier company’s headquarters are located) have not collaborated with the rogatory commission sent to Telegram to report certain data and identify the owners of the accounts used for the infringement.
The lack of information on the part of Telegram does not allow it to continue investigating the case, so the judge made the decision to block to avoid “the repetition of the reported events.” The judicial decision has been criticized from various professional and political spheres, from the Council of Computer Engineers to the consumer organization Facua, Vox and Podemos, as well as by experts in the digital sector.
