The pilots denounce Air Europa for evading the preliminary agreement and continue with the strike

Date: April 19, 2024 Time: 02:37:33

The Sepla pilots union will maintain the call for new strike days at Air Europa between June 19 and July 2 at all bases and work centers in Spain after denouncing that the airline has breached a verbal pre-agreement to update salt arial

In a statement, the union assures this Thursday that on June 8 it obtained a verbal pre-agreement with Air Europa to update the salary conditions of the pilots from which the airline distanced itself a day later by presenting a “radically different” document.

According to Sepla, the pre-agreement separated the salary update from the transfer of labor rights included in the IV Collective Agreement, while the company’s new proposal aims to “reduce the cost of the collective by impoverishing the rights and working conditions of the new pilots who get on the airline.” The pilots assured that they had given in their hands to agree on an “insufficient” salary update, but that allowed the strike to be unblocked.

Keeps the call

After these events, Sepla maintains the call for new strike days between June 19 and July 2, which are added to the eight days called between May 22 and June 2, in which 114 flights were cancelled, and a first batch of four at the beginning of May, which resulted in 68 suppressed operations.

Behind these protests is, according to Sepla, the “confrontational” position that the company has adopted in the negotiation of the new collective agreement. There is also no progress being made in the negotiation of the V Collective Agreement, since Air Europa’s management is only contemplating a new agreement with “lowering” working conditions, with a salary proposal below the CPI.
