On August 1, Moscow’s Khudozhestvenny Cinema will host the Russian premiere of Amanda, a film directed by up-and-coming director Carolina Cavalli and starring young Italian film star Benedetta Porcaroli. The film will be presented by the cinema’s programming director, Stas Tyrkin.
In the story, 24-year-old Amanda lives in her own world and tries to adapt to the real one. She looks for herself, her friends, collects points at the supermarket, visits someone else’s horse, and hardly ever takes off her knitted vest. Remembering how the heroine and her childhood friend Rebecca spent a lot of time together when they were kids, Amanda chooses a mission for herself: to convince her that they are still best friends with her.
“Amanda” is an ironic story about the life of a girl who rejects the rules of the upper class to which she belongs. Her only friend is her seven-year-old niece, with whom they talk about boys at school. Amanda is a collective image that reflects the reality of modern youth.
The witty comedy starring Benedetta Porcaroli premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The film was later screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. In her work, Carolina Cavalli managed to convey the emotion of a 24-year-old girl. The landscapes of the hot Italian summer balance the irony of the story, in which the problems of a man with a quarter-life crisis are mockingly devalued by the older generation.
The Khudozhestvenny Cinema will also hold a retrospective of Jean-Luc Godard’s films. It will take place from August 7 to 11.
