The price of gasoline and diesel rises and has already accumulated two consecutive weeks on the rise

Date: March 2, 2024 Time: 06:31:36

The price of fuel continues its upward path and has already become more expensive for two weeks. Gasoline and diesel have risen by a slight 0.25% and 0.14%, respectively, levels that, even so, may be around their annual lows and are well below those registered just a year earlier.

According to the European Union (EU) Oil Bulletin consulted by EFE, which collects data from more than 11,400 service stations in Spain between May 30 and June 5, the average price of gasoline stood at 1,588 euros per liter, while diesel cost about 1,417 euros.

Gasoline thus recorded its second consecutive rise after a five-week downward streak, and marked its fifth lowest price so far this year, remaining, however, above the price of diesel. For its part, the diesel that came to add up to ten weeks of falls counted 20 cents per liter approved by the Government.

Compared to a year ago, with the discount in place, gasoline is 14% cheaper and diesel costs 17.4% less, while in the last month the price of the first fuel has fallen by 0.7% and the second, 1.1%. At current prices, filling a 55-liter tank with gasoline costs 87.3 euros, and doing it with diesel almost 78 euros, which means a reduction compared to a year ago of 14.3 euros in the case of the first fuel and of 16.4 euros in the second.

Currently, the prices of both fuels are far from the maximums they reached in June 2022, in the midst of the energy crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, since gasoline costs 18.2% less and diesel, 25 .4% less.

Compared to the rest of Europe, fuels in Spain were below the averages registered in the European Union in the last week, where the average price was 1.716 euros per liter for gasoline, and 1.54 euros for diesel oil. Likewise, in the eurozone the liter of gasoline has been paid on average at 1,766 euros, and diesel, at 1,566 euros.
