Despite this drop in registrations, the weight of leasing in total registrations was 26.6%, above the 25.27% in 2021. The vehicle segment with the most representation in leasing is derivatives, vans and pick-ups, where the sector accounts for 40.21% of the market, compared to 32.36% in 2021.
In the case of December, 26,423 cars were registered in the leasing sector, 5.86% less than in 2021, when 28,068 units were registered. In that month, leasing accounted for 54.23% of the business channel as a whole; which in 2021 accounted for 52.92%. In the accumulated of the year, renting has a weight in this company channel of 46.98% compared to 43.53%, which was registered in 2021.
Millionaire investment for rental cars
The total investment made in the acquisition of new vehicles by leasing companies reached 5,634 million euros at the end of 2022, 0.20% more than in 2021. 38.5% of leasing registrations were diesel vehicles , 29.3% gasoline and 2.5% pure electric. Regarding the 10 most demanded models in leasing, in 2022 these accumulated 19.5% of the total number of vehicles registered in leasing in the business channel.
For the president of the AER, José Martín Castro, despite the fact that the scenario was not the most propitious, due to the increase in the Registration Tax and because there was not a sufficient supply of vehicles, leasing closed with a weight of 26.6% and a marked growth trend.
In this way, December has been the second best month of the year, after June, when registering almost 26,500 units, although it was compared with a month, that of 2021, in which registrations increased a lot as a result of the entry into force of the increase in the Registration Tax, in January 2022
