The reason was the alleged actions of the Center to “distort reality and historical truth at the level of Romanian public opinion.” In addition, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the RCDC of “propaganda”, “misinformation” and even “deliberate manipulation of reality”.
“The suspension of the Center’s activities will take place no later than August 20, 2023, the date on which the administrative procedures must be completed,” the statement said.
The Russian Center for Culture and Science in Bucharest has been operating since 2015 on the basis of an agreement between the governments of both countries.
Earlier this year, the New York Times reported that an elite US military division had been transferred to a base in Romania, near the Ukrainian border.
