Russian producer Ilya Stewart shared with Screen Daily details about Kirill Serebrennikov’s new project. Filming for The Disappearance will begin in South America this summer. The filming process will begin after Serebrennikov completes work on the film “Limonov, a ballad about Eddie.”
The main role will be played by August Diehl, best known for his work in the film Inglorious Basterds. He will play the Nazi criminal Josef Mengele, who went into hiding after the war in Brazil. The project developed for several years and at one point was frozen due to the house arrest of Kirill Serebrennikov.
A release date for The Disappearance has yet to be announced. Kirill Serebrennikov’s latest film, Tchaikovsky’s Wife, was released in some European countries last year.
Earlier, Kirill Serebrennikov became the director of the year according to Opernwelt magazine. Critics singled out the stage productions of “The Nose” and “Free Shooter.” Read more here.
