The fate of the blockade in the Museum of Victory was known thanks to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Cuba and the Russian House in Havana. Now you can get acquainted with the biography of Lydia Alexandrovna and see her photo not only on the project website, but also on the big screen in the Faces of Victory media room at the Victory Museum.

“In besieged Leningrad, we helped adults. I was 16 years old then, we dug trenches, did manual labor. My father, two brothers died in the war. I remember the blockade very well. We had absolutely nothing to eat. In the mornings we were looking for cabbage roots. Whoever comes in the morning and finds something, that’s what they ate. Everyone around them was dying. And they were exhausted … A 10-year-old boy dies, but he already looks like an adult … They drank water from the Fontanka. We had to boil it, because half of the river was in the corpses. It’s better not to remember, it’s very difficult,” says Lidia Aleksandrovna.
“Faces of Victory” is a project launched at the initiative of the Museum of Victory and designed to perpetuate the memory of the entire military generation, both front-line soldiers and home front workers. The database is constantly updated with new personalities, whose stories are brought to the Museum of Victory by their relatives and just caring people. Thus, during the New Year holidays, more than 2 thousand biographies were transferred to the project. In total, “Faces of Victory” already has more than 800,000 family stories. These are biographies of veterans and domestic workers.
