State Duma deputies approved in the second and third readings a law that will allow the Russian Guard to transfer confiscated and unclaimed weapons to the special military operation (SVO) zone.
Hunting weapons are now found in abandoned houses, confiscated after the death of their owners, from those who abuse alcohol or drugs, who store or transport them carelessly, who do not want to renew their license or who go to live abroad.
Once in a warehouse, these weapons gather dust on a shelf for a year, awaiting lawsuits and lawsuits from the relatives of their owners. As a rule, no one comes to buy hunting rifles, which today cost several tens of thousands of rubles. After a year of storage, they are disposed of.
Every year, for the reasons listed above, the Russian Guard sends 150-200 thousand such weapons for destruction, and with them millions of rounds of ammunition. The same lead shot that our front-line soldiers sorely lack, perfectly diverts the course of reconnaissance and attack drones.
The authors of the adopted document, MPs Alexander Khinshtein and Vasily Piskarev, gave a second life to civilian weapons. Now, after storage, they will be tested for serviceability and transferred to the zone of special military operations together with the cartridges.
Deputy Chairman of the Security and Anti-Corruption Committee Anatoly Vyborny said the document would allow the transfer of the most effective types of civilian weapons for the destruction of enemy drones.
It should be noted that in a number of regions, campaigns have already been held to collect hunting weapons for the needs of the army. Every forward observer, sentry, crew of armored vehicles or artillery must have a hunting rifle.
The population of our country now has more than six million weapons in its hands. If at least 5% of them are transferred to the zone of special operations, this will significantly reduce the losses caused by drones among our military personnel.
