The State Duma approved a law on life imprisonment for sabotage

Date: April 19, 2024 Time: 12:20:20

The State Duma amended the Criminal Code (CC), according to which the organization, financing of sabotage and propaganda provides for penalties of up to life imprisonment. The bill was approved in third reading, the deputies voted unanimously. RBC writes about it.

Three new articles were added to the Penal Code: “Encouragement of sabotage activities” (article 281.1 of the Penal Code), “Training for the purpose of carrying out sabotage activities” (article 281.2 of the Penal Code) and “Organization of community sabotage and participation in it” (article 281.3 of the Penal Code).

For organizing a sabotage community – from 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment, for participation – from 5 to 10 years. A citizen can be released from punishment, provided he has immediately informed the authorities about the impending crime or contributed to its suppression.

More than 380 deputies of the State Duma, including its chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, became the authors of the document. He stated: “Since the Russian Federation is conducting a special military operation and at the same time accepting refugees, remains open to the entry and exit of foreign citizens, the adoption of bills is a fundamentally important step necessary to protect our country. This is the general opinion of all factions in the State Duma.”

Earlier, Vladimir Putin signed a federal law banning surrogacy services for foreigners in Russia. Only married citizens of the Russian Federation or a single woman, a citizen of Russia who, for medical reasons, cannot bear or give birth to a child on her own, can use the services of surrogate mothers.
