The legislators believe that it is important to indicate in the title precisely “militaristic Japan” (the political regime that operated in the country in 1945). The decision is not directed against Japanese civilians who also suffered the hardships of the war.
Amendments are being made to the law “On the days of military glory and memorable dates in Russia.” Previously, September 3 was celebrated solely as the Day of the End of World War II.
According to Andrey Kartapolov, Chairman of the Defense Committee of the State Duma, in the period of the 20-40s of the last century, the policy of the Japanese state was of a pronounced aggressive nature, and one of the strategic tasks was the destruction of the Soviet Union. He believes that the Day of Victory over militaristic Japan will mark the consequences of violating international law.
