The British newspaper The Sun has apologized for an article by columnist and television presenter Jeremy Clarkson, which is dedicated to Meghan Markle. The post has been removed from The Sun’s site and archives.
“The opinions of the columnists are their own, but as editors, we understand that with freedom of expression comes a responsibility. We at The Sun regret the publication of this article and sincerely apologize,” the newspaper said.
Jeremy Clarkson tweeted that he made an unfortunate reference to a Game of Thrones scene in the article, but many people took it “very badly.” “I am horrified that I have caused so much pain and I will be more careful in the future,” Clarkson said.
In a Meghan Markle column for The Sun, Jeremy Clarkson wrote that the Duchess of Sussex should be paraded through the streets naked and littered with excrement. He also added that all of her “colleagues think the same way.” The post sparked widespread public outrage.
