Good news for people who have outstanding debts with the Treasury. Delayed payments with the State Tax Administration Agency, less than three euros as of June 1, 2022, will be canceled and removed from the accounts, according to a joint resolution of the General Intervention of the State Administration and the General Directorate of the Tax Agency, published this Tuesday in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
In the aforementioned resolution, which will be applicable within fifteen days of its publication in the BOE, the annulment is agreed and all those settlements in which there is a debt pending collection for an amount less than three euros, with respect to which the collection management will not continue for “strictly economic” reasons, given that their amount is “insufficient” to cover the cost represented by their collection.
Why the Treasury will forgive debts of less than three euros
According to the State Intervention and the Tax Agency, the purpose is none other than to avoid collection actions that presuppose a “zero profit” for the Public Treasury or for compliance with the fines entrusted to the Public Administration. “This is the case of liquidations whose levy generates costs that are higher than the resources that could potentially be derived from those,” they stress.
