The Amazon center in Martorelles (Barcelona) will close on April 22, against this decision the logistics center’s works council has called a strike from February 1 to 17 due to the failure of the mediation meeting with the Management of the e-commerce company maintained this Friday that it was looking for the best salary solutions for a staff of about 800 workers.
As union sources have explained to EFE, the committee has chosen to present the documentation to call the workers to strike, although the details of the mobilization have yet to be specified.
So far, the two meetings that the committee has held with the management of the logistics center have not served to bring positions closer and this Friday the mediation before the Labor Court of Catalonia also ended without an agreement.
The origin of the conflict is the decision of the electronic commerce giant to close its center in Martorelles and offer its 800 workers the transfer to the new locations that are opening in Zaragoza and in El Far d’Empordà (Girona).
The committee insists that the staff be offered destinations in other centers in the province of Barcelona and wants the closure of Martorelles to be treated separately from transfers.
Some of the centers in Barcelona mentioned by the unions are in La Verneda and Zona Franca, Rubí or Barberà del Vallès, which would be added to two others in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda and Parets del Vallès that the workers’ representatives believe will open soon .
The unions have also rejected the single payments that, according to what they have reported, the company offers for transfers and which are 3,000 gross euros to those workers who agree to go to Zaragoza and 1,500 gross euros for those who opt for Girona.
Company sources, however, assure that relocation of these employees to other centers in Spain has been considered on the table and that the specific options will be agreed within the framework of the negotiation.
