Music streaming service Spotify has announced that Canadian singer The Weeknd has become the first artist in the platform’s history to reach 100 million monthly listeners. Variety writes about it.
The Weeknd’s rise in popularity came after the release of the “Die For You” remix, recorded in collaboration with Ariana Grande. The track topped the music charts and is currently number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.
The single was the fourth collaboration between The Weeknd and Grande. They previously released “Love Me Harder” (2014), “Off the Table” (2020) and a remix of “Save Your Tears” (2021).
In second place in terms of the number of listeners per month is Miley Cyrus, she has more than 82 million. Taylor Swift is in third place with 80 million, followed by Rihanna with 79.
Recall that Spotify became the first music streaming service to reach more than 200 million paid subscribers. According to the company’s report for the fourth quarter of 2022, their number increased by 14%.
