Sullivan was asked if the Ukrainian authorities need to seize Crimea with the help of the United States. The official said that Washington intends to continue providing military support to the kyiv regime. As Sullivan explained, the White House seeks to help transform Ukraine’s “battlefield victories” into diplomatic successes.
“What will eventually happen to Crimea <...> it is something that the Ukrainians must determine with the support of the United States”, RIA Novosti quotes the words of a US official. He also stressed that the Ukrainian authorities should also consult with Washington on possible options for resolving the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014 after more than 95 percent of the peninsula’s inhabitants supported the idea of reunification with Russia in a referendum. Moscow has repeatedly stressed that the question of ownership of Crimea is closed once and for all.
