In Spain, there are many and very diverse social benefits managed by the Public State Employment Service (SEPE) and which are aimed at people who remain unemployed. Although the best known is unemployment, there are other aids that it is possible to receive when you lose your job. One of them is the subsidy for insufficient contribution of 480 euros per month, dedicated to those who have less time contributed to Social Security than necessary to collect the unemployment subsidy, that is, their working life is less than 360 days. But this can only be received by those who meet a series of general requirements.

The Government of Spain established in the General State Budget (PGE) of 2023 an increase in the Public Indicator of Multiple Effects Income (IPREM), which this year has reached 600 euros and represents 80% of the subsidy for insufficient contribution. Hence, the amount of this aid has gone from 463.21 euros per month in 2022, to the current 480 euros.

The SEPE, managed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, led by Yolanda Díaz, establishes that the duration of this benefit depends on the contribution period and the beneficiary’s family responsibilities. It must also be taken into account that your payment is made between the 10th and 15th of each month, and is paid by bank transfer to the account owned by the applicant.

Who can receive the subsidy for insufficient contribution

As the name of the subsidy itself already indicates, in order to receive it, it is essential that applicants have not contributed long enough to collect unemployment. But to this are added other requirements that are detailed on the SEPE website:

Being unemployed and in a legal situation of unemployment. Be registered as a job seeker and maintain that registration throughout the period of receiving the aid. Accept the activity commitment. relatives or, at least, six months if they do not have one, and less than 360 days. Gross rents are taken into account.

how long does the service last

The duration of the subsidy for insufficient contribution of 480 euros per month varies depending on the time that contributions have been made and whether or not the beneficiary has family responsibilities.

In the event that there are family responsibilities, the aid may be received for three, four or five months, if three, four or five months have contributed, respectively. For its part, the benefit will last 21 months if contributions have been made for six or more months: in this case, the right is recognized for six months, which can be extended for periods of six months, until its end. On the contrary, if the applicant does not have family responsibilities, he will only be able to enjoy the subsidy for six months, if he has contributed for six or more months.

On the other hand, discontinuous permanent workers will have the aid for the same number of months that they have contributed for unemployment in the year prior to the application.

How to apply for help

The right to request the subsidy for insufficient contribution arises the day after the legal situation of unemployment. Those who meet the requirements may submit the petition within 15 business days, which begin the day after losing their job.

To do this, they will have to submit the official application form through the SEPE Electronic Office, at the benefits office, at any public registry office or by administrative mail.

With regard to the documentation needed to process the request, the ID or passport stands out, any bank document that shows the account number of which you are the holder and where you wish to receive the benefit, or the company certificate in which you The legal situation of unemployment is accredited.
