According to the publication, the petition has already been signed by many public figures, writers and journalists, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Salvini and Vice President of the lower house of parliament Gasparri.
The petition states that Italy must immediately withdraw from the war unleashed by the West and “stop all direct or indirect assistance to one of the parties to the conflict.”
The authors further urge Italians not to accept that their country has become “a repository for deadly nuclear devices under US control, as well as a site for military laboratories and research centers.”
The petition also contains the protesters’ promise to arrive in Sanremo on February 11 and declare to the world that they renounce war.
So far, the petition has already been signed by several tens of thousands of Italians.
The Corriere della Sera, however, argues that this protest will not change anything and Italian television Rai, which is the organizer of the festival, will still give Zelensky the opportunity to speak at its closing ceremony on February 11.
