This act provoked discontent from the International Cycling Union, which decided to fine the Frenchman 200 Swiss francs for “inappropriate behaviour and damage to the image of cycling”.
At the same time, the pictures of the kiss were broadcast on television channels around the world and aroused positive emotions.
The athlete himself admitted that he knew that family and friends had arrived and would be waiting for him on the uphill section of the route.
“I’m sorry, UCI Cycling, for damaging the image of the sport, but I am ready to pay 200 Swiss francs a day and relive this moment,” Bernard responded to the fine on social media.
