“They’re covering (Biden) … but now it’s getting very difficult to do so,” Trump said during an exclusive interview on Fox News’ “Hannity,” referring to Democrats and the media. “And you know, it seems to me that he’s very likely to stay, he’s got an ego and he doesn’t want to leave. He doesn’t want to do it,” Trump added.
In his first interview since his debate with Biden last month, host Sean Hannity asked the likely Republican nominee about his opponent’s performance at the June 27 debate, which was almost unanimously criticized. “I knew within minutes that this was not going to be a good night for Joe Biden,” Trump said. “When he started talking, I thought his voice was weak, I didn’t quite understand what was going on. It was strange,” he added. As for the content of his opponent’s remarks, Trump explained: “They weren’t even answers, they were just words with no meaning or significance.”
Calls for Biden to drop out of the presidential race have grown louder over the past week following his disastrous performance in a televised debate. Trump also predicted that if Biden drops out of the race, Vice President Kamala Harris will become the Democratic nominee. “I think it’s going to be her. I think they’re very concerned about the vote,” Trump said.
On Monday morning, Biden called on his detractors to challenge him at the party convention. The US president said he regretted his performance in the debate, during which he repeatedly stuttered, lost his train of thought and appeared pale and unhealthy. “Look at my career, I haven’t had many nights like this. It was a terrible night and I’m really sorry about what happened,” Biden admitted. However, he insisted he was still fit to perform the duties of his office.
