The record for the men’s one-mile road race also did not stand. Its author is the American Hobbs Kessler – 3:56.13. The previous one was 4:01.21. This was reported in a World Athletics press release.
In 1954, when American Roger Barrister first broke 4 minutes in a one-mile (1,609 meters) race on a stadium track, it was believed that this record was unlikely to ever be broken. And now runners run even faster on the road.
