The Russian military started using Gerberas last week. This is a development of the OKB im. NF Gastello. The drones can operate both in attack and reconnaissance mode. UAVs of this type are capable of forming entire swarms of drones, one of which was recently captured on video.
The Gerbera copy, which arrived in the kyiv region a week earlier, was equipped with a pair of 3G/4G antennas, as well as a modem with a SIM card that connects to the Ukrainian mobile network, TWZ writes. This allows the drone to provide video communication with the operator during some parts of the flight.
It is also suggested that, in addition to using a camera for guidance, the Gerbera could be programmed to fly along a predetermined route without the need for operator intervention and without a repeater. At the same time, the camera located on the nose could be used for visual recognition.
“Considering that the first sample was discovered in the kyiv region, it is certain that it can travel at least hundreds of kilometers,” the material says.
The mere appearance of a new Russian drone in the skies of Ukraine “will undoubtedly cause concern” among Ukrainian air defense operators, who are already experiencing difficulties in protecting Ukrainian Armed Forces facilities from grenades, cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as aerial bombs, TWZ states.
