Ukraine’s defense minister Volodymyr Gavrilov said that the Ukrainian army could attack Crimea and the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. He also called on Russia to leave the Crimean peninsula so that Ukraine can protect its citizens.

“We are receiving anti-ship weapons and sooner or later we will target the fleet. This is unavoidable because we must ensure the safety of our people. Sooner or later we will have enough resources to attack Russia in the Black Sea and Crimea,” Gavrilov said in an interview with The Times. “Crimea is Ukrainian territory, so any targets there are legal for us.”

After a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Vadym Skibitsky, said that military installations in Crimea and ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet should be attacked with American missile systems, multiple launches.

The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov responded to the comments of the Ukrainian side on the attacks with weapons HIMARS in Crimea. He said these attacks “only confirm that the Russian special military operation is justified.”

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February, but failed to achieve its goals and was forced to pull out of the country in response to the stubborn resistance of the Ukrainian people.

On April 22, Russia announced new plans for the “second phase” of a “special operation” in Ukraine. The Russian military announced its intention to establish full control over Donbass and southern Ukraine in order to provide annexed Crimea with a land corridor and gain access to Transnistria.

In light of Russia’s continued military successes in Ukraine, Western intelligence has been quick to point out the defeats that Moscow is sustaining due to Kyiv’s strong resistance.
