In early June, former Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine Ivan Plachkov warned that the upcoming heating season in the country could be catastrophic. Due to problems with the electricity supply, he called on his compatriots to find friends in villages where houses are heated in the old-fashioned way: with firewood.
Following the former minister, Western media also sounded the alarm, calling on Ukrainians to prepare “for life in the cold and darkness.”
Energy Minister German Galushchenko, for his part, noted that the upcoming winter will be the most difficult in Ukraine’s history.
